The Nonantum Resort Wins Henkel's Go Green & Save Contest! 

Only 5 hotels across the country were selected for their efforts in going green. The Nonantum Resort was the only hotel in Maine and New England to be in the running. Voting ran through October 22, 2014 and The Nonantum was named the winner! The resort will receive $30,000 worth of Henkel products like Dial sustainable guestroom amenities to use in their 2015 season.

The Nonantum Resort, located on the beautiful coastal environment in Maine, has sustainability at the core of the property's mission statement. Working hard to raise awareness of the environmental impact of everything they do around the resort, this property saves green by going green in everything they do. Certified by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection as an Environmental Leader, The Nonantum implements programs to: save energy, conserve water, minimize/reduce waste, use environmentally preferable cleaners, purchase and prepare local foods, in addition to having 100% organic flower and herb gardens on the property. More specifically, they have recycled 1,308 lbs of soap and shampoo in 2013 by donating to Clean The World, and sent approximately 8 tons of kitchen waste to a local composting facility.

Nonantum Innkeeper, Jean Ginn Marvin, Elected President of New England Inns & Resort Association 

October 2014: At the 107th Annual Meeting of the New England Inns and Resorts Association (NEIRA), Jean Ginn Marvin, Innkeeper at The Nonantum Resort, was elected President of the Board. Marvin commented, “It is such an honor to be chosen the leader of the most respected, influential hospitality organization in New England. I look forward to furthering NEIRA’s mission of driving awareness, increasing profitability and occupancy for independent properties throughout New England.”

Nonantum General Manager, Tina Hewett-Gordon, Named Chair of Maine Restaurant Association Board of Directors

October 2014: During its annual meeting, the board of the Maine Restaurant Association (MeRA) elected Tina Hewett-Gordon, General Manager of The Nonantum Resort, to a two year term as Chair of the Board. Hewett-Gordon has served on the MeRA Board since 2006. 

“All of us here at The Nonantum Resort are so proud of Tina,” said Innkeeper Jean Ginn Marvin. “We know she will be a successful Chair, as Tina brings a wealth of skills to Maine Restaurant Association. There is no doubt this is going to be a great year for all involved!” 

The Nonantum Resort has a longstanding tradition of culinary excellence. Executive Chef, Steve True, was named Maine Chef of the Year 2014. Chef True cooks up creative local cuisine, like his signature Blueberry Chipotle Ribs, and nightly specials featuring fresh seafood and ingredients like herbs from the resort's organic gardens. The Nonantum's 95 Ocean restaurant has received TV Diner's Platinum Plate Award. The resort also offers two casual dining spots - Heckman's Pub, located just off the lobby, and Latitudes Poolside Bar & Grill, open seasonally.

Executive Chef Steve True Named Maine Chef of the Year 2014

The Nonantum Resort’s Executive Chef Steven True was named 2014 Chef of the Year by the Maine Restaurant Association. Chef True cooks up creative New England cuisine, like his Signature Blueberry Chipotle Ribs, Maine Lobster Stuffed Avocado, and nightly specials in 95 Ocean restaurant, using fresh and local ingredients like herbs from the resort’s gardens. Steve has been fulfilling his life-long passion as a chef for more than 30 years while living up and down the East Coast. He has been with the Nonantum for the past five years. Steve also volunteers his time in training up-and-coming culinary talent at Southern Maine Community College.

Maine Innkeepers Association Honors Jean Ginn Marvin with 2011 Innkeeper of the Year

Freeport, Maine, November 2011……Jean Ginn Marvin, of the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, was honored with the 2011 Innkeeper of the Year Award by the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at their 90th annual meeting. The award is presented annually to an active Innkeeper who has significantly contributed to the development of the Maine Innkeepers Association.   

Marvin’s career in hospitality began in 1999, when she was named Director of Sales at The Nonantum. After 5 years in that position she was promoted to her current job as Innkeeper. She has served on the executive committee of the Maine Innkeepers Association and on the board of New England Inns and Resorts (NEIRA). Marvin also serves on the President’s Advisory Council at SMCC, is a former Town Councilor in Cape Elizabeth, as well as a former Representative to The Maine Legislature, and has been a member of several Cape Elizabeth town commissions. 

Marvin credited much of the success the Nonantum Resort has achieved to the dedication of the hotel staff and her General Manger, Tina Hewitt.  

 

 

“While my name is the one on the plaque, the people who are responsible for the award are the men and women who come to work at The Nonantum each day with a smile and the belief that hospitality is indeed endless,” stated Marvin as she accepted the award.

Marvin has chaired the Southern Maine Community College Foundation Board; Portland Symphony Orchestra Board of Trustees; South Portland Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees; Maine State Ethics Commission; Portland Conservatory of Music and The Maine Movers. She has also served as treasurer on the Maine Heritage Policy Board (MHPC) as well as the Maine Educational Services Board (MES). 

Marvin and her husband Bob, of 29 years, are the proud parents of three.
