‘Our weekend in Kennebunkport was almost presidential’
The Examiner – August 2015 – “We checked into the Nonantum Resort… overlooking the Kennebunk River. From there it’s a gorgeous two-mile walk or drive along the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean to the Bush compound. From the Nonantum’s dock, you can take kayaks out on the river, or join a lobsterman for an hour or so as he hauls in his traps from the Rugosa, a classic New England wooden lobster boat. We opted to join Captain Nick for a two-hour sail on the awesome “Downeast” 38-foot ketch “Pineapple,” as we knew he would take us out on the ocean for a sea view of the (Bush) compound, which he did. Hotel Management magazine – January 2015 – Only five hotels in the U.S. were recognized by Henkel for their green efforts, and the Nonantum Resort was the only hotel in New England to be in the running. The resort was voted the winner and has received $30,000 worth of Henkel products like Dial sustainable guestroom amenities to use in their 2015 season.
The Nonantum Resort, located on the beautiful coast of Maine, has sustainability at the core of the property’s mission statement. Working hard to raise awareness of the environmental impact of everything they do around the resort, this property saves green by going green in everything they do. Maine Innkeepers Association Honors Jean Ginn Marvin with 2011 Innkeeper of the Year
Freeport, Maine, November 2011……Jean Ginn Marvin, of the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, was honored with the 2011 Innkeeper of the Year Award by the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at their 90th annual meeting. The award is presented annually to an active Innkeeper who has significantly contributed to the development of the Maine Innkeepers Association.
Marvin’s career in hospitality began in 1999, when she was named Director of Sales at The Nonantum. After 5 years in that position she was promoted to her current job as Innkeeper. She has served on the executive committee of the Maine Innkeepers Association and on the board of New England Inns and Resorts (NEIRA). Marvin also serves on the President’s Advisory Council at SMCC, is a former Town Councilor in Cape Elizabeth, as well as a former Representative to The Maine Legislature, and has been a member of several Cape Elizabeth town commissions.
Marvin credited much of the success the Nonantum Resort has achieved to the dedication of the hotel staff and her General Manger, Tina Hewett.
“While my name is the one on the plaque, the people who are responsible for the award are the men and women who come to work at The Nonantum each day with a smile and the belief that hospitality is indeed endless,” stated Marvin as she accepted the award.
Marvin has chaired the Southern Maine Community College Foundation Board; Portland Symphony Orchestra Board of Trustees; South Portland Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees; Maine State Ethics Commission; Portland Conservatory of Music and The Maine Movers. She has also served as treasurer on the Maine Heritage Policy Board (MHPC) as well as the Maine Educational Services Board (MES).
Marvin and her husband Bob, of 29 years, are the proud parents of three.
95 Ocean restaurant at The Nonantum Resort Earns TV Diner’s Coveted Platinum Plate Award
July 2008 – 95 Ocean was visited but the popular TV Show “TV Diner” hosted by Billy Costa. TV Diner is noted for reviewing restaurants for NECN, New England Cable News, and giving them a culinary critic’s rating of Silver, Gold or Platinum. The Nonantum Resort received the highest Platinum Plate rating, a result of an incognito visit to the restaurant earlier this summer.
“We are so proud of our chef, Steve True, who has created some unique and delicious offerings for our menu, which were singled out in this review by TV Diner. Our culinary team and wait staff also deserves credit for this impressive award,” commented Innkeeper Jean Ginn-Marvin.
The show featuring 95 Ocean aired on NECN in July, with video of 95 Ocean and the Nonantum Resort Dining Room overlooking the Kennebunk River. Host Billy Costa said, “The Dining Room of 95 Ocean has a bright ambiance, a sea shore theme and large picture windows offering gorgeous views of the water.”
Among the numerous menu items sampled for the TV Diner Show were Chef True’s Signature Blueberry Chipotle BBQ Ribs, and the Lobster Stuffed Avocado. Costa said “Maine lobster never looked prettier or tasted better.”
Costa referred to The Nonantum’s entrees as stunning and sensational, the service as great, and prices as “appealing for quality and quantity.”
Costa described the Key Lime Pie as a “tantalizing tandem,” and the Blueberry Crumb Pie as “sweet perfection.”
Costa said in his TV Diner recommendation, “95 Ocean gives resort guests and the general public artfully presented dishes in a quiet, elegant atmosphere with wonderful service. 95 Ocean earns the Platinum Plate.”
Executive Chef Steve True said he is very proud that The Nonantum received the top honor bestowed by the TV Diner Show. “We work hard to create interesting and appetizing menu items, to be recognized by such a well-respected and recognized TV show is exciting.”
95 Ocean is open nightly for dinner, and also features live entertainment most nights in season.
