Nonantum Resort Saves Cape Elizabeth Prom
KENNEBUNKPORT: TWhen the Cape
Elizabeth High School Senior Class lost its
$2,500 deposit to the Pavilion in Portland
the class thought they were going to have to
cancel the Junior-Senior Prom. But when Jean
Ginn Marvin, owner of Nonantum Resort in
Kennebunkport, learned of the students’
troubles, she immediately offered to host
the event in the oceanfront resort’s
ballroom.
“Our hearts went out to these high school
students when we heard they had lost their
deposit and that they were facing the
possibility of the Prom being canceled, “
said Jean Ginn Marvin, owner of The Nonantum
Resort. “Prom is a special evening, a night
kids look forward to and save up for all
year. We wanted to be sure they had their
special night here at the Nonantum,” said
Ginn Marvin. “The fact that the scheduled
date was available made seem like it was
meant to be.”
The Nonantum will provide prom attendees,
approximately 300 students, with the venue
and complimentary soda throughout the
evening. The formal evening, this Saturday
May 12, will feature dancing to a D.J. in
the resort’s ballroom.
The Nonantum Resort, now open for its 124
season, is located at 95 Ocean Avenue in
Kennebunkport. The 1883 historic hotel has
111 guest rooms, a ballroom, and a waterview
restaurant and lounge – 95 Ocean.
The Nonantum has served as a meeting spot
for U.S. Presidents and dignitaries, a
popular wedding reception location, and an
ideal setting overlooking the Kennebunk
River for numerous fundraising and social
events.
