NONANTUM RESORT LEADS FUNDRAISING IN MAINE
INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION’S 4TH ANNUAL
“HOSPITALITY FOR HABITAT” PROGRAM
KENNEBUNKPORT, ME – June 28, 2007 –
The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport is
pleased to have been the largest contributor
to Maine Innkeepers Association’s (MEIA)
fourth annual “Hospitality for Habitat”
program, helping to make it a complete
success.
The “Hospitality for Habitat” project, which
was designed to raise money for local Maine
chapters of Habitat for Humanity, attracted
more than 30 MEIA members, who offered a
designated number of their rooms at half
price from May 1 – May 18. In return, guests
donated a $25.00 check payable to Habitat
for Humanity for each room at the special
rate. The promotion raised over $5,500.00
for Habitat for Humanity, of which the
Nonantum accounted for a record $2,000.00.
The next largest contributors were The
Harraseeket Inn in Freeport with $875.00 and
the Beachmere Inn in Ogunquit who raised
$500.00.
The idea for the project came from Marian
Burns, owner of the Mira Monte Inn in Bar
Harbor. The Mira Monte Inn contributed
$430.00 for the project.
“It seems a perfect fit,” said Ms. Burns.
“The Maine Innkeepers Association members
provide lodging for the traveling public;
Habitat for Humanity helps provide lodging
for families not otherwise able to afford
it.”
Tina Hewett, the General Manager at the
Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport was
thrilled with the Nonantum’s participation
level. “We are excited to have led the State
of Maine in this fundraising project.
Knowing these funds will help get a family
into a new home makes it all the more
rewarding,” said Hewett.
“We’re delighted that so many of our members
stepped up to help us with this project
again this year,” stated Greg Dugal,
Executive Director, MEIA, as he tallied
approximately 150 checks from 31
participating properties. “And we hope that
next time we do this, we can at least double
that amount. We seem to have hit a chord
with people - guests get a real deal on a
nice stay, and they help a very good cause
at the same time,” Dugal continued.
