Tina
Hewett, General Manager of the Nonantum
Resort in Kennebunkport, was presented
with the Governor’s Award for Tourism
Excellence recently during a ceremony at
the Annual Governor’s Conference on
Tourism held at the Samoset Resort.
-
The Governor’s Award is
the state's top honor. The awards are
sponsored by the Maine Tourism
Commission, and presented to those who
lead by example. Nominated by their
peers in the tourism industry, the
individuals and businesses honored at
the conference luncheon were selected in
a juried process.
-
Donna Fichtner, chair of the Maine
Tourism Commission, presented Hewett
with a slate rendering of the state of
Maine, hand crafted in Maine from Monson
Slate.
-
“The Maine Tourism Awards honor the best
and brightest in the state’s largest
industry,” Fichtner said. “These winners
lead the way in helping make Maine a top
destination for visitors from around the
world.”
-
During her 15 years at the Nonantum,
Hewett has helped it become one of
southern Maine’s most popular places for
an overnight stay, a wedding reception
or an evening of live jazz music. While
providing great customer service to her
guests, she has also set an example by
helping other businesses and causes in
her community and beyond.

-
The Nonantum is a supporter of the
Kennebunkport Historical Society and the
Brick Store Museum, and has been a
participant in the Hospitality for
Habitat Program to raise money for
Habitat for Humanity.
-

Hewett is a veteran of local United Way
campaigns and has sat on the board of
directors of the New England Inns and
Resorts Association, the
Kennebunk/Kennebunkport Chamber of
Commerce, and the York County Community
College hospitality advisory committee.
-
The Governor’s Conference on Tourism is
an opportunity to recognize those whose
service and dedication is commendable.
